In this course I’m assuming that you’re opening the whole WordPress installation folder into your IDE instead of opening just a theme or plugin folder. I wrote a blog post that outlines all the reasoning behind this and you should probably go to read it first before proceeding. I tried to make it short, sweet and visual.

You could, however, follow this tutorial even if you would still like to keep opening only your theme or plugin folder into your IDE. Just run the install commands in your theme/plugin folder and place the config files into the same folder.

I’m also assuming that you are familiar with npm (Node.js package manager) and Composer (PHP package manager) and have a development environment that has both installed. Those tools are way out of the scope of this course and I’d rather teach how to install and use them in an another course at some point in the future.

This course is currently aimed for VS Code users, but I’m planning to cover some other code editors in the near future.
